All Saint's Day and All Souls' Day or what we call Undas are celebrated on November 1 and 2 of every year. During the pre-pandemic years people often to visit and clean the graves of their departed loved ones, they also light up candles offer flowers and pray for the souls of the departed ones. As pandemic spread all over the world the tradition of our "undas" is not the same anymore. As we take precaution to prevent the spread of the virus, government and LGUs released an ordinance (Resolution No. 21-22 s. 2021) same as last year to close cemeteries nationwide from October 29 to November 2. The said ordinance is to prevent the gatherings that can cause another surge of the COVID-19 virus. IATF advise all who wants to visit the cemetery can go prior or after the said dates. Don't forget to wear your wask and face shield and maintain 1 meter distance. You can also bring your alcohol to prevent the spread of the virus.

The tradition and history behind All Saint's Day

November 1 of every year. Roman Catholics and other Christians all around the world observe All Saints' Day, a day to honor all saints of the church. In the eastern orthodox church All Saints day celebrated on the first Sunday after Pentecost.

All Saint's Day was originally celebrated on May 13 not November 1st. According to Encyclopedia Brittanica the origin of the date is still unknown. It was formally started in May 13 in 609 AD when Pope Boniface IV devoted the Pantheon in Rome as a church in honor of the Virgin Mary and all martyrs.

It was moved to November 1 731-741 AD through Pope Gregory III during his reign when he devoted a chapel in Rome's St. Peter Basilica in honor of all the saints.

The celebration was limited to Rome but later Pope Gregory IV ordered an official celebration of All Saints Day every November 1st in every church.

All Saints Day is not a public holiday in the United States. While in France and Germany people have the worked day off and businesses are closed. In the Philippines it is also for honoring ang paying respects to all departed loved ones.

The tradition and history behind All Souls' Day

In Roman Catholicism, November 2 is a day for the All Souls' Day to remember all the departed loved ones who believed to be in purgatory because they died of lesser sins on their souls. Roman Catholic reckon that the prayers of the faithful on earth will help cleanse the souls of the dead in order to fit them to the Creator's vision. This day is dedicated of remembrance and prayers.

The exact date of the observance is still unidentified. In 1048 AD, St. Odilo, the Abbot of Cluny, enunciate that all monasteries of the congregration of Cluny should observe which called before a Day of All Departed Ones which is now known as All Souls' Day and was soon adopted by others. Therefore, All Souls' Day became the official observance for the faithful departed since 14th century.

All saints day is a very important observance for the people of the Philippines. In fact it is a Special non-working holiday. which fall on the.  Here’s Department of labor and employment November 1 Holiday Pay Rules as approved by NLRC or DOLE:
